1.
Two black cats crossed my path today but I made it here One turned around and took a short last look before it disappeared I can’t be chasing you my friend, to find out what you know I’ve got to find my own way, I think I’ll let you go Turn around, that was meant for me Turn around, uneasy Turn around, that was meant for me I’ve never been to New Orleans but I think I’ve got to go And find out what those two black cats think I ought to know What can it be, is it bad, now it’s got me wondering It’s coming over me, sort it out No hellhound on my trail today, I think I’ll step outside The rain’s been falling down all day. I should have stayed inside I can’t push my luck back uphill. It’s on a downward slide Leave it alone for now. I’ll close me eyes

Spirit 04:58
Crisis in the morning, where did everyone go? I’m going backwards but I hope it doesn’t show In the point of the instant it just doesn’t seem real And my existence was no big deal I’ve got to make it ‘til Friday I’ve got to make it all come real Sad in the afternoon, I hear you’ve gone away Then all of a sudden the place looked so grey I searched for the spirit that keeps pushing me on I knew it was there so I made it a song I’ve got to find a way out of here And protect what makes me strong There’s a ghost beside me calling out several names Handing round some photos, dealing out some blame I raised my hand up I’m feeling brave today I’ll help you this once, then I’m going away You’ve got to settle all those claims Then you’ve got to move along You’ve got spirit…

Come Home 05:05
We’ve come a long way from where we stood before A warm spot in the sun, we’ve found And a cool spot in the shade and what’s more I’m not afraid to say I needed help I’ve had enough and you can tell I don’t like that look on your face It’s too sad and it’s too easy to trace I know it’s been a long long time And longer still to go Come on, it’s late and there’s nothing we can do I’ve been here a thousand times and still no one remembers me or you What are you waiting for at 4am Surely not a long lost friend
4.
Mean machine, cruising slowly by Tinted windows in the black of night Security guard, part of the business Haven’t got no home, haven’t got no life Making judgement on a passer by
5.
Free Reign 03:38
I’m gong give you something you’ve never had before You better take it right in hand before it’s out the door It’s a little something, I’ll show you some respect It’ll give you what you want, you’re gonna get it yet Free Reign It’s going to surpass anything you’ve felt before Like crystal for new age kids, it’s gonna give you new thought You wont find it in any machine or a superhighway screen It’s something you’ve already seen and it’s already right there
6.
Tell it like it was, don’t make it up this time You know it wasn’t like that when it got left all behind Don’t play with propaganda, mixing up the stories Whisper in my ear, pass it down the line Think about it first, think who you’ll hurt You’ve got the chance to do it right, so take it on Think about it first, think who you’ll hurt I want to see some dirt, I want to see it fly To splatter on your walls, until you realize Your city’s a nervous wreck, living underground Who still somehow get to work without a sound
7.
Eye of the storm, finding your way home Mistakes of consequence your own Feel that difference Let go of my confidence You can come but make no judgement, as I have done this Eye of the storm, you let yourself on board You’ve got some feelings that can’t be ignored Tied to the mast You’re free at last Leaning into that chaos Windswept wooden floor Ride on with danger Push it like you’ve never ever done before Photograph that memory Put it on display No one understands at all Except the ones who have to live with it day after day Eye of the storm, sunshine breaks your fall And the water lapping at your side And the fury you have tied You’ve regained sight

about

DRIVEN features Paul Berwick (gtr/vocals/songwriter) and Christian Houllemare (bass/vocals) - both ex Happy Hate Me Nots (Sydney) - together with Chris Hampson (drums).

This Sydney-based 3 piece recorded this gritty 7 track EP and released it in 1996 on CD via the Stuntpram label.

With Berwick's trademark writing style of diversity within the power pop format, each song tells its own tale via a stripped-down, no-frills production.

All the songs rock along in a punk/power pop way, with the moody 'Come Home' thrown in for extra balance.
